Woodturning repairs and reproductions
We get requests for repairs - usually requiring replacement parts to be made - for a variety of turned wooden items: summerhouse finials, clock finials, doorknobs, drawer and cabinet knobs, gearstick knobs, even a lawnmower roller. Basically, if it's round and made of wood, we should be able to make a reproduction.

Lawnmower roller replacements

Barry in Cayton, North Yorkshire, wondered if we could make some replacement rollers for his lawnmower, to replace the tired old plastic versions he had. We made these from teak which should ensure they last for many years to come.

Michael in Banks, near Stockport, requested a replacement plinth for a carriage clock.
The original plinth was brass plated metal, which was tarnished and beyond recovery.
The replacement required recessed holes underneath to take fixing bolts, and the top required a groove to seat the glass dome.

Patrick requested a replacement finial for a clock he was restoring. He posted us an existing finial, which we reproduced, with the addition of a small dowel at the base. Turned from mahogany to match the clock.
Replacement shutter knobs
Shutter knobs
Robbie requested 16 bespoke knobs to replace old ones for a restoration project in a Georgian townhouse in London.
We made these from ebony, copying one of the old cracked knobs sent to us by Robbie.
Genuine ebony is now on the endangered species list (Cites II), but we have a small stock left us by an old woodturner from many years ago, along with other exotic woods which are now quite rare and difficult to source.
Replacement door knobs and escutcheons

These door knobs were custom made for Richard in Southport, who wanted fourteen matching doorknobs for his newly stripped and renovated doors throughout his house. Some were required to fit as a pair with handles on either side, though they were not required to operate a mortise lock. They could be made to fit a square shaft for turning a mortise lock. Others were to fit on only one side of a door, so were supplied with just a single bolt.
The beech door knobs in beech were for Elizabeth in Devon, made to fit refurbished 1930s doors. Appropriate metalwork was quite difficult to find - we eventually managed to source some from Knobbs Hardware.
