Description of work
A hollow form and bowl both turned from an offcut of a green oak beam, given to me by a friend who is renovating a house. Being the end of the beam, there were checks (splits) in the wood. These have been left untreated and unfilled as part of the character of the pieces.
The first is moving more towards a "hollow form" than a bowl, with a hole at the top about 2 inches in diameter, not enough to get a hand in easily, so the form is more of a decorative piece than one having any practical purpose. The second is a deep bowl standing on a foot - necessary to remove an unpleasant gouge in the wood.
These bowls are finished with mineral oil then beeswax, leaving a matt sheen rather than a high polish.
