Description
This onion shaped finial was based on a design sent to me by Jonathan in Hartlepool. He was very clear that he wanted a large finial, 8 inches in diameter, on a 17 inch circular base. As the largest section cedar I can buy comes in 8 x 6″ cross-section, it had to be made by gluing blocks together.
The piece was made from cedarwood, and left untreated, as the customer wanted to stain it to match the rest of his summerhouse. Cedar wood is very resistant to rot. The finished finial, stained to match the summerhouse, is shown below.
