Description
This is a solid oak beam sanded and polished, resting on oak supports and a lenght of oak. Supports are dowelled and glued into the shelf. The supports were turned by glueing and screwing two 4" square pieces together back to back, then turning the profile, before separating again. It was made to size to fit over a small stove. The piece is fitted to the wall using two hidden brackets, sunk in to the rear of the turned supports.
The whole was finished with three coats of wax - first Tripoli wax, then white diamond, and finally a hard wearing, high sheen carnauba wax (a derivative of palm oil).
