Description

A set of shelves made for a laundry room. They stand above a "solid" oak worktop, 27 x 920 x 1800 mm and are made from the same material and some reclaimed oak. The board is made from 40 mm thick variable length "staves", finger jointed lengthwise, and glued together. The shelf brackets were made from an offcut of this board, each cut to slightly less than 40 mm thickness to avoid any linear joints. An L-shape was made from 2 short lengths, then a third cross-piece was cut to a curve, with all three pieces screwed and glued together. The back supports were made from reclaimed oak, routed to provide a neat profile.

The large board was supplied (by Worktop Express) unfinished, so three coats of Danish were applied, the final coat being rubbed in with fine steel wool. The top two shelves were supplied pre-oiled, the bottom shelf was an offcut from the 920 mm wide worktop.

This was a creation for home rather than a commercial item, so no particular price is offered, and no genuine desire to make these commercially is suggested, (though I never say never). The oak alone for what is shown here cost around £250 (shelves plus worktop).
