Cake stands

Description of work

This trio of cakestands was made as a trial for a catering supply company, as a possible bespoke line for some of their customers. They are turned in oak, with some nice burr oak being used for the stems and base. The tops are rounded off smoothly to simplify clearing up the crumbs from the cakes.

The stands are finished with mineral oil, and then a beeswax and mineral oil paste, giving them a foodsafe finish with a good sheen rather than a high polish. Another version is below, made to incorporate a cloche - so it has a gentle groove and rim to hold the cloche in place- and also made with less height and a wider base at the request of a potential customer, to provide more stability for cutting the cakes.
