Spoons, Spatula and Spirtle

Description of work

An exercise in shaping wooden kitchen utensils. The spoon handles were turned on the lathe from beech, a traditional timber for cooking utensils, and then shaped with a mixture of Arbortech and oxide paper. The spatula hande was turned, and then the blade shaped on a sanding belt. The spirtle - or spurtle - was entirely turned on the lathe. A spurtle is a Scottish porridge stirrer, apparently designed to limit the risk of it becoming lumpy whilst cooking.

The pot to hold the implements is turned from spalted beech.

All the pieces are finished with mineral oil, which is of course food safe.
