These spinning tops were made on request for a shop in Essex that sells "products with a focus on quality, craftsmanship and sustainability". They can be made to any size, though two to three inches diameter seems to produce a good spin. They can be made in any timber - heavier, denser timber such as elm or blackwood works well. The sample here includes African blackwood, ash, elm, iroko, oak, sycamore, walnut, and yew. Price obiviously varies with size, though also the type of timber is significant, with the exotic woods being the most expensive (but usually also the best spinners as they are more dense). Most of these in the picture would be £4 - 5.
All the tops are finihsed with cellulose sealer, then three coats of wax - Tripol, white diamond and finally carnauba wax, which gives a hard wearing high sheen to the tops.
The whole point of items like these is their individuality, so please don't ask for a set all the same!
