Wands for witches and wizards

Description of work

With two young granddaughters very keen on all things magical, I have made a number of wands for them to practice their spells. I have also made two wand racks to keep some of the wands in order.

Most of the wands are based on those belonging to characters they have read about, but there are some that are just experiments in design. For example, the two on the outsides above are made from hazel branches.

As well as turning to shape, creating the detail on these wands involved some ebonising (burning), carving, pyrography and engraving. Most of those shown here are made from offcuts of walnut that I happened to have available.
