Description of work
This trophy shield was made for Malton School, sponsored by Maxwell Morrison, and is to be presented annually to the student who has shown the most endeavour in their life at school over the years. In essence this means it will be presented to a senior student.
The design is based on a compass, suggesting direction and focus, but also a link with Cook's famous research, exploration and discovery ship, the HMS Bark Endeavour. The outer design is pyrographed with points of a compass. The centre is a replica of a Stanley compass, and has a magnifying glass dome filled with oil.
The large shield is 14" in diameter. A smaller 5" shield was made to present to the student who won the prize, which also has a monetory value to help the student in their future endeavours. The small trophy is shown below. Small circular discs placed around the rim will be pyrographed each year to record the annual winners. The disc is intended to hang as a wall plate.
