A bowl made from a seemingly plain oak blank, which turned out to have quite lively grain patterning. No burrs, just swirling grain and prominent medullary rays. There is a thin bead worked around the outside, with a collar above this about 3/4" high.
The bowl is a very simple, functional object, yet it provides scope for endless variation and subtlety in its design. This is one of many experiments in searching for a good balance and the "right" look.
This bowl is finished with mineral oil then beeswax, leaving a matt sheen rather than a high polish.
