Burr oak wall clock

Description

A delightful piece of burr oak forms the base for this wall clock. A quartz movement with three hands on a spindle through the woodhas been used in preference to a dial clock with glass bezel. This allows the most to be made of the burr patterning.

A roman numeral clock face has been pyrographed onto the wood. There is some interest in the numeral IV, which appears as IIII on many clock faces. From what I can tell this is one of those things that is neither wrong nor right, just a matter of choice. Big Ben has a IV, Chester clock tower has a IIII.

The clock has been sealed with cellulose sealer, then two coats of wax have been applied - Tripoli to clean and bring out the colour, and then hard carnauba wax to give a polished hard wearing sheen.

As with all burrs this is a one-off, though similar burrs may become available in future.
