Contemporary Floral Art Trophy

Description of work

This trophy was commissioned by a lady in memory of her mother, Brenda, who enjoyed her flower arranging.

 

The main trophy is turned from a single piece of cherry. It is based on a calla lily shape, though is not intended to be a faithful reproduction of the calla lily shape - the flower tubes are very thin at the base. Some of the bark was left on the rim, as the customer liked natural edges and natural features. Inside is a stamen made from pau amarillo, and textured to resemble a lily stamen.

 

The trophy is to be presented annually at a flower show, and the intention is to add annual plaques to record winners. This would be ifficult on the curved surface of the cup, so a stand was made from burr oak to give plenty of flat surface for plaques to be attached. Again the natural edge, burr and bark was left as a feature.

 

Pyrography was used to add two calla lily pictures to the side of the cup, and a dedication - "The Brenda Palmer trophy for contemporary floral art"

 

The price range reflects possible variation in the amount of pyrography required, the type of wood used, and whether a stand is required or not. As a guide a pyrographed vase shaped cup with stamen and cut away - £70, a stand to go with this £30.
