Horticultural trophy - vegetable growers

Description of work

Alex requested a large trophy in memory of his father, who was a keen vegetable grower and horticultural shows participant. This will be awarded at his local show in memory of his father.

The cup is made from three pieces of walnut, screwed together with mortice and tenon joints. It has been sealed with cellulose sanding sealer and then finished with three coats of wax - Tripoli, white diamond and finally carnauba wax, leaving a high gloss.

The vegetables are turned from a variety of woods used to reflect the natural colours of the vegetables. A little green stain was used on the spring onion. Butternut squash and spring onions - spalted beech; onion - larch; parsnip - oak; carrots - padauk; beetroot and radish - purple heart; shallots and mushrooms - box and laburnum. The leaves/stalks are leather.
