Description of work
This shield is based on an old cloth school badge for Malton County Modern - a school which closed in 1971. At least, it merged with Malton Grammar School to form a new comprehensive. The shield shown here was created to hang alongside grammar school versions, in the entrance to the school.
The oak base is actually cut from old library shelving, which became redundant when a new library was opened in 1998.
A cut raised panel was added on the front, on which are painted the heraldic style emblems which all have a significance to the school and to Malton town.
Vinyl lettering was applied. In any new work this would be added using pyrography.
The wide price range reflects the amount of paintwork detail that might be necessary on any other commission based on this shield. The artwork is all hand painted, hence can be quite time consuming.
