Anniversary clock

21 April 2025

Pauline and Philip in Thornton le Dale requested a wall clock for their 20th wedding anniversary. It has a simple inscription pyrographed on the face: in celebration of Saturday 23 April 2005. This clock is turned in oak, and has a radio movement, which means it keeps correct time using a radio signal, and resets for events such as BST.

Newel post caps

Lawrence in Beckley requested three bare-wood oak newel post caps in the shape of a 70mm diameter ball, with a flat base and peg, based on a photo provided by the customer.

Replacement finial

28 March 2025

Tom in Huddersfield requested a replacement finial for what looks like an old dovecote. We made this in opepe, a very durable wood that should last 20 - 25 years. We stopped making finials as a mainstream production line in 2021, having found sourcing appropriate timber difficult, but we can occasionally help customers, if we have appropriate wood in stock.

Mantel clock

21 March 2025

An interesting striped burr oak block provided the frame for this mantel clock, with lines radiating out from the centre. The face provided was white, Arabic numerals, 80mm in diameter - but all these aspects can be changed, for example to have a gold or silver face, Roman numerals, or a different diameter. Inevitably the burr wood will be different, and unique. Requested by Elizabeth in Leicester.

Gavel and block

Another gavel and block requested by Ron at The Polytechnic Lodge, exactly the same as the one they had in August last year except this time the gavel is made from oak and the sounding block elm. The purpose is the same, a gift to another Romanian lodge they are visiting.

Door furniture

A set of door furniture for Sylvane in London who is renovating his Georgian town house, with great attention to detail. The set consists of 5 pairs door knobs, 6 pairs fingerplates, 3 pairs escutcheons. Overall making bespoke door knobs is a fiddly job so prices do need to reflect this - more detail is on a bespoke door furniture page. These items can be supplied with or without metalwork: obviously adding the metalwork will increase the price.

My Dear Mother clock

An unusual wall clock request from Katie in Devon. Instead of numbers this one has the letters MY DEAR MOTHER. Made for a vicar retiring from St Peter's, Buckland on the Moor, where the clock was installed by Lord of the Manor William Whitley in the 1930s. Have a look at more wall clocks and mantel clocks

More tree photos, this time 250 from The Himalayan Gardens at Grewelthorpe, near Ripon in North Yorkshire. 45 acres of woodland gardens, lakes and a young arboretum, dotted with a huge variety of contemporary sculptures by both local and international artists. Inspired by the Himalayas, the park is home to one of the North’s largest collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias. This latest addition takes the Tree list on this site to over 600 species.

Chisel trophy

A small gift to recognise long service requested by Andrew in High Wycombe. It consists of a turned and shaped wooden chisel, made from Jarrah, on top of a tulipwood plinth. Have a look at more chisel trophies.

Cricket trophies

3 March 2025

3 large cricket trophies made for Rhys at Gorseinon cricket club (Swansea), showing the variety we can achieve for the same purpose. The first is an adaptation of a football trophy made some years ago. The second is one of our more frequently requested cricket trophy designs, but larger than usual and with a carefully pyrographed and painted club logo added. The third again uses a common design of ours, a trophy with an inscribed disc resting on a plinth, once again with a detailed club logo pyrographed and hand painted in the centre.

Camera softbox pegs

3 March 2025

A request from Gary in Easingwold for 10 wall mounts to hold camera softboxes, with their acompanying speed rings, on the wall of his photographic studio. They are 3" in diameter, about 4" long with a 5" backplate, turned from oak and finished with carnauba wax. An example of an unusual bespoke request that, being a small business, we can often cater for. Have a look at some other unusual turned items.

Cricket trophy

24 February 2025

A large cricket trophy made for Dulwich Cranbrook School.

Ash wickets and bails are positioned on a 9 x 9 x 4" square oak base, splayed by a padauk cricket ball. A solid brass plaque for winners' names is fastened to the rear. A detailed school badge has been pyrographed and placed in a raised disc at the front, together with the dedication to Jack Ryan.

The attention to detail, large size and bespoke elements in this trophy makes it something special, and a price around £200 reflects the amount of work and time that went into it. Ash bowl

13 February 2025

A bowl turned from a piece of ash, with some voids, bark inclusions and stress lines. It has been left in its natural colour, given three coats of Danish oil and then polished with carnauba wax. This bowl is for sale. Have a look at more bowls.

Geography trophy

13 February 2025

A repair to an old geography trophy for Malton School. I made the original before I started woodturning, using a plastic globe and reclaimed oak library shelves. The plastic inevitably broke, and it has been replaced by a new globe in spalted beech, the spalting suggesting mapping, without being defined. We intend to have a go at a pyrographed globe in the near future showing countries burnt into the wood. Watch this space!

Burr elm bowl

Dale at Forestry England requested a burr elm bowl to be presented as a retirement gift. We had this one in stock, but added a requested inscription: "Between every two pines is a doorway leading to a new way of life" (John Muir). Have a look at more bowls.

Sam in Kent requested a personalised golf trophy, for her husband to keep as he returned the silver version he had won back to the club. Turned from sycamore, with a base in oak.

Wooden school trophies

Two new economics trophies to add to the collection at Malton School. The larger version stays in School as a perpetual trophy, with winners names being recorded on the plinth each year. The smaller version is presented to the winning student to keep, with a new one being created each year.
